Native Americans and Alaska Natives have much higher rates of alcohol and drug abuse and alcohol and drug addiction than other ethnicities, an a situation which must be resolved for these people to endure. Although the things which trigger substance abuse may vary from person to person, many of the reasons for the significantly higher rates of drug abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives have to do with their culture. The most apparent hurdles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for addiction are cultural challenges and language.
