Native Americans and Alaska Natives have much very high rates of substance abuse and addiction than other ethnicities, an an issue which must be aknowledged for these cultures to endure. Although the reasons may differ from person to individual, most of the reasons for the higher rates of substance abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the country. The most obvious barriers to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for addiction are cultural ones and language. For this reason it is crucial that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in King City obtain treatment services in a drug and alcohol treatment center that is understanding of their culture, but most importantly in a drug rehab program that considers the need to provide drug and alcohol rehab in their native tongue.
